Meet your coach: Erik Seedhouse

Erik Seedhouse is the most successful and versatile athlete in the sport of ultra-distance triathlon. Erik's career in endurance sport began when he ran a 2h 25 min marathon at the age of 18 in the 1983 London Marathon. In 1991, he won the first of several 100km races, by winning the British National 100km Championships. In 1992, he placed third in the World 100km Championships in a time of 6h 33 min, a time that is still the Canadian 100km record. Shortly after making the transition to ultra distance triathlon, Erik won the World Endurance Triathlon Championships over the triple ironman distance in 1995. The next day he turned professional and three months later won the inaugural World Double Ironman Championships, which he followed up by winning the infamous Decatriathlon, a ten-times Ironman race. He retained his world championship in 1996 thus proving his versatility by also winning over the stage race format; he won both Ultraman Hawaii in 1996 and Ultraman Europe in 1998. He retired in August 1999, after finishing Race Across America.

Erik combines years of dedicated training and racing with an extensive educational background rooted in sports medicine and exercise physiology. In addition to his Master's degree in Sports and Exercise Science, Erik is also an NCCP educated coach, has a Ph.D in physiology and has spent several years teaching kinesiology courses to undergraduate students. He lives with his wife and three cats on the Niagara Escarpment.
